What's Next: On Being a Media Artist (2019)

Event organised for the MSc. Media Technology programme and _V2 Lab for the Unstable Media.

Location: TENT Rotterdam, platform voor hedendaagse kunst.

This edition of the What’s Next? series presents media artists Marion Tränkle and Thijs Eerens, both Media Technology MSc alumni. In their talks they will illustrate their practice and share their experiences as art professionals working in the field of digital media. They will elaborate on how they got to do what they do now, what it is like to establish yourself as a digital creative or creative researcher, and what the pitfalls and must-do's are for developing your independent entrepreneurship after your graduation.

Marion Tränkle

Having finished a PhD in Artistic Research at Brunel University London, Marion Tränkle is currently a lecturer at the Eindhoven University of Technology and at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. Our discussion with Marion will uncover what it means to be both an academic and a researcher and show us how to combine media installations with performance art.

Thijs Eerens

Thijs Eerens is a creative technologist developing life sized interactive work, frequently exhibited at, amongst others, Lowlands Festival. Thijs’ interactive installations can be seen as playful, bordering on the absurd. How does one come to building a Packman XL or a Physical Pong? Thijs will discuss his oversized artistic practice and what brought him to create it.
